Tamagotchi goes interplanetary: Neon Planets lands November 21

October 11, 2026

Big news week for Tamagotchi fans. Bandai just pulled back the curtain on three things at once: a new handheld that lets your pet hop between planets, the first proper home-sized lab device in years, and a 30th-anniversary festival built on the joke that Tamagotchi is actually 3,000 years old.

Tamagotchi Paradise - Neon Planets

The new handheld in the Tamagotchi Paradise series launches in Japan on November 21, 2026, at 6,380 yen tax-included (5,800 yen before tax). Preorders open November 2 at 11:00.

If you've played the recent Paradise devices, you know the series already added a zoom dial for care-and-play. Neon Planets goes further with a "Planet Switching" feature, so your pet can move between multiple planets. You start raising yours on the Cosmic Star planet, and as your pet grows you unlock two more: New Tamagotchi Star and Tamagotchi Star. Three planets, one very busy egg.

There's also a new "Tama Galaxy" mode that combines play from space all the way down to cells, with four magnification levels. Good news for anyone who ever wanted to raise a Tamagotchi at the cellular level.

Content-wise, Neon Planets adds more than 60 new items, 5 new mini-games, and 40+ new breedable characters, with 22 of those new on Cosmic Star. And for the long-timers: the classic, legacy characters from 30 years of Tamagotchi history are breedable on Tamagotchi Star. That's the hook for anyone who grew up in the '90s.

Tamagotchi Paradise - My Lab Tamagotchi

Then there's the companion device, My Lab Tamagotchi, a deka (home-sized lab) release on November 7, 2026, for 9,900 yen tax-included. It's the first mass-produced deka Tamagotchi in about 16 years. Deka fans have waited a while for this.

On its own, the lab device packs in 150+ characters and 20+ mini-games. The interesting part is the tsuushin (infrared) link with the Neon Planets handheld: a linked Neon Planets can send special food to breed a docked-simulation form, so your handheld pet can pop over to the big lab and the two devices talk to each other.

The 3,000-year-old festival

If you're in Tokyo, mark November 7 to December 6. That's when "Shuku 3000-shunen!? Chou Tamagotchi Matsuri in Shibuhara" (roughly, "Celebrating the 3000th Anniversary!? Ultra Tamagotchi Festival in Shibuhara") runs at the MAZE venue on the 4th floor of Tokyu Plaza Harajuku Harakado, plus surrounding Shibuya and Harajuku spots. Admission is free, open 11:00 to 20:00.

The gimmick: a "mysterious stone monument" said to depict Mametchi and Kuchipatchi was "discovered" during construction at the TOKYO Toy Show venue on August 26, 2026. That's the setup for the bit that Tamagotchi is actually 3,000 years old, and the festival displays "excavated" items tied to Tamagotchi history. It's absurd, it's on-brand, and it's free.

Stateside, the parallel event is the Tamagotchi Times Square Spectacular in New York City on November 22, 2026.
