Tamagotchi gets a 30th-anniversary capsule charm for your umbrella

October 10, 2026

Some toys are great to collect. Others are great to use. Every so often Bandai makes a Tamagotchi thing that is both, and the new "Tamagotchi Mejirushi Accessory 30th Anniversary Edition" gashapon line is exactly that kind of release.

Here is the little trick behind it. A "mejirushi" is a small marker charm you clip onto an umbrella handle or a bag so you can spot your own stuff at a glance. Slide to a row of identical black umbrellas in a stand and yours is the one with Mametchi smiling on it. It is a tiny, everyday solution to a tiny, everyday problem, and this capsule-accessory series is one Bandai has kept running for years. Now it gets a Tamagotchi 30th-anniversary treatment.

The line has eight types. Anniversary-original designs of the big names: Mametchi, Kuchipatchi, Memetchi, Oyajitchi, Kuromametchi and Lovelitchi. Beside them sit two more nostalgic picks, the classic "Tamagotchi (White)" and "Tamagotchi P's (Pink)". That White first-gen unit is the nice one. It is the exact shape that started all of this thirty years ago, shrunk down into something you would actually carry around.

The charms arrive in November 2026 at 300 yen including tax, in standard capsule-toy fashion.

Anniversary merchandise usually shows up as a premium figure in a display box, priced like a keepsake and meant to sit on a shelf. This is the opposite: a cheap capsule that is genuinely useful. At that price it is also the easiest possible doorway back into Tamagotchi nostalgia. You do not need to commit to a whole virtual pet to take a piece of the 30th anniversary home. A few hundred yen for a charm that rides your umbrella for years is a gentle entry point.

There is something quietly charming about the whole idea. A 30-year-old mascot, one of the most recognizable little faces in toy history, put to work helping you find your umbrella in a rack. It is a bit humble for a character with that kind of legacy, which is exactly why it works. The anniversary is not a museum piece here. It clips onto a handle on a rainy morning and does a small, honest job.

If you collect Tamagotchi gear of any stripe, the Mejirushi line is worth a look when the machines fill up in November. If you are new to the franchise, a 300-yen charm is about the friendliest first step into it that Bandai has made.

Got a favorite from the eight? Mametchi is the safe bet, but the classic White has a stubborn old-school charm. Next week we are looking at how the Mejirushi capsule series compares with other Bandai accessory lines, over at the sister site.
