Bandai's 30th Revival Series Adds Two More 1997-Era Tamagotchi Originals

October 01, 2026

If you grew up in the 1990s, there is a specific sound you have not heard in a long time: the impatient beep of a Tamagotchi demanding you notice it is hungry, dirty, or both. Bandai is betting that sound still lives in you. The second wave of its "30th Revival Original Tamagotchi" reproduction series is here, and it is a straight answer to the question nobody quite asked but everyone wanted answered: will you re-release the ones we actually remember, on the actual hardware?

Yes. Both new entries are exact-replica keychain originals, faithful down to the original device, packaging, and program. They are not carbon copies of each other either. Each one brings back a different favorite.

First is "30th Revival Original Tamagotchi New Species Found!! White" (3,080 yen incl. tax, out in Japan on October 17). It reproduces the hugely popular "New Species Discovered!! tamagotchi" from 1997 in a fresh pop white-and-navy scheme. Under that clean shell runs the classic GEN2 program, so you can raise Mimitchi and other characters the way you remember: feeding, cleaning up after them, medicine, plus training and mini-games that lead to multiple possible growth outcomes. The ball chain means you can clip it to a bag or a jacket zip and carry a tiny responsibility with you again - which, if you are honest, is exactly how you survived the late 90s.

Second is "30th Revival Original Tamagotchi Angel Pearl White" (3,080 yen incl. tax, same release date of October 17). This one resurrects the "Tenshitchi no tamagotchi" - the "Angel Pearl" design beloved in the 1997 era - finished in pearl white. It runs the newer GEN3 program: raise Kuriten and friends with the same routine of care, training, and mini-games. Wish the screen clear still, since screen protectors are not sold separately, and note that the included CR2032 battery is test-only, so budget for a fresh one when it arrives.

Together these two form the second installment of the 30th-anniversary reproduction series, and the anniversary itself lands on November 23, 2026 - a few weeks after these ships. For collectors, this is a chance to hold the exact object a younger you begged shopkeepers about. For the rest of us, it is permission to be nostalgic without irony.

If space-themed extras are more your speed, the Thank You Mart collaboration of 30th-anniversary goods is also filtering into stores in late October, with Mametchi, Kuchipatchi, and Mimitchi rendered among stars and planets, each item 390 yen plus tax and preorders open from September 30.

So dig through the drawer where old batteries go to die, and get ready to raise a pixel pet that remembers you. If you want to read more about revisiting the tech of an era that now feels ancient, our sister site covers that odd machinery at https://stacksignal.fdhcl.com
