Every Tamagotchi needs sleep. Flip the Lights toggle to darken the room and let it conk out, and you'll find a rested, happier pet in the morning. Skip the sleep schedule and it gets tired, grumpy, and more prone to getting sick — which loops straight back into needing medicine.
Care decides which character you get
Here's the part that keeps it fun. A Tamagotchi doesn't grow into one fixed adult. Across its life — egg to baby to child to teen to adult — your level of care determines which of several possible forms it becomes. Look after it well and consistently and it trends toward the classic, smiling, well-adjusted characters. Neglect it, overfeed it, skip the cleaning and the scolding, and you're more likely to raise a grumpy, sketchy-looking runt.
